Go Global Youth Travel Programs are educational experiences that focus on social responsibility both in North Carolina and across the globe.
The goals and objectives for Go Global Youth Travel Programs are to build communities that nurture personal growth in spirit, mind and body. These programs have been designed to offer opportunities which foster responsible citizenship, healthy lifestyles, environmental stewardship, international understanding, service and respect for individual differences.
In 2012, the YMCA of the Triangle is offering Go Global trips to Peru, the British Virgin Islands, Washington, D.C., and Charlotte, N.C. for teens in grades 6 - 12.
Peru Program Highlights March 3 - 11, Ages 18 -24. $2,397 March 30 - April 7, Grades 10 - 12, $2,397 June 28 - July 13, Grades 10 - 12, $4,997 • Experience walking into Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate, just as the Incas did hundreds of years ago. • Serve your host community through days spent playing at local orphanages and helping with small construction projects that have a huge impact. • Build relationships that will literally span the world for years to come. • Discover the stars of the Southern Hemisphere as you camp in the desert of the Andes Mountains and in view of the Pacific Ocean. • Go home rich! Expect to return home with a true sense of accomplishment and richer in spirit at the conclusion of this powerful and challenging program.
United States Program Highlights: Washington D.C., April 1 - 7, Grades 9 - 10, $567 Washington, DC, April 1 - 7, Grades 11 - 12, $567 Charlotte, N.C, April 2 - 6, Grades 6 - 8, $367 • Lend a hand with a diverse range of service initiatives that may include visiting with the elderly, tutoring children, helping with small construction projects, or preparing nutritious meals for those in need. • Learn about the homeless and the hungry in our own country and how it affects millions every day, right in our own neighborhoods and schools. • Visit some of our country’s most treasured national parks, monuments and museums. • Gain a new perspective on your life and go home with a renewed appreciation for the blessings you have been given. • Earn a minimum of 20 community service hours for school and service clubs. • Have fun with your friends. Spring Break programs are available for teens beginning in grade 6.
British Virgin Islands Program Highlights: • Sail through magnificent islands and learn the challenges of being a crew member while living and training aboard a large cruising sailboat. • Learn navigation and charting as you plot the course for the adventure. • Rise to the challenge as you take the helm and set the sails every day on your 50’ floating home. • Discover the world under the water when you snorkel and swim in the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean. • Leave a very competent and confident sailor. You will be ready to teach others and continue to build on this unique skill set.
